Invisalign braces have the potential to change your life when carried out by a trained dentist. Millions of people around the globe have transformed their smiles using these removable, clear invisible aligners. Created specifically to gradually move your teeth closer together, Invisalign braces treatment can provide you with the straight teeth you’ve always craved and give you a smile to be proud of.

Having straight teeth is one of the most desirable attributes for people in the UK. While we can all admire the beauty of straight teeth, undergoing Invisalign treatment can have a dramatic effect on your mental and dental health. Some people can be self-conscious of having crowded or crooked teeth, crossbites and overbites, to the extent that it prevents them from smiling and enjoying life to the full.

Unlike traditional metal braces that were locked in place, Invisalign treatment allows you to remove your mouth guard-like clear plastic aligners to continue to brush and floss your teeth as normal. Straighter teeth are also less susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay.

I have been registered with Cheslyn Hay dental practice for approaching 5 years, and since this time I have had nothing but positive experiences.I have had the Invisalign treatment with Dr Singh and I found the whole process to be smooth and straight forward. Dr Singh explained the procedure, discussed the treatment plan in-depth and helped this allowed … More me to make an informed decision. The care throughout the 12 month process was patient centred all the way and the after care was amazing. Dr Singh really took the time to ensure I was happy with my end smile and I decided to also opt for the teeth whitening treatment, as my wedding was approaching. The final result gave me the confidence I had been lacking with my smile for years. I genuinely couldn’t recommend a better dental practice.

Our Invisalign Braces Treatment Will Bring A Smile To Your Face

With Invisalign  clear aligner treatment, you are gradually re-positioning your teeth week by week until you achieve the prescribed goal of your Invisalign dentist. You are presented with a series of clear braces that are custom-moulded to fit your teeth. These invisible aligners are replaced on a fortnightly basis until your teeth have reached their goal.

People must wear their Invisalign braces for at least 20 hours per day, removing them only to eat and clean, but because your aligners are almost invisible, no-one will know you wear them.

Invisalign FAQ

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Used to correct issues, such as crooked teeth or an over bite.

What Is The Invisalign Process?

The steps of your treatment process are as follows:

  1. Consultation: You sit down and talk to an Invisalign dentist face-to-face. The dentist shares details on the entire process and the likely costs for your treatment plan, and you can ask any questions you might have.
  2. Preparation: The dentist may take x-rays, photographs, and a 3D digital scan of your teeth. You may need small composite patches applied to your teeth to help the Invisalign aligners grip and move your teeth. If you need patches, these are white and made from the same material as fillings. They are removed once treatment is complete.
  3. First fitting: Your first fitting usually occurs at the same time. The aligner should feel tight but not uncomfortable. You may notice that your teeth ache a little during the first few days and after each new tray as your progress along with your treatment program.
  4. Subsequent aligners: Depending on your dentist’s advice, you will move onto your next Invisalign aligner every one or two weeks.
  5. Check-ups: You will attend regular appointments every four to six weeks. The dentist will check progress, answer your questions, and ensure you are happy with the progress.
  6. Invisalign cleaning: You clean them in the morning and before bed, using a toothbrush without toothpaste. When you take them out, you should rinse them and soak them in dental cleaner (dissolvable cleaner tablets) whenever you are not wearing them.
  7. Completion: Once treatment is complete, most Invisalign dentists recommend wearing a retainer. You usually start by wearing the retainer full-time, before gradually moving to overnight only.
How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made aligners that gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, then switch to a new set. The process continues until your teeth are in their final position.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

The length of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the severity of your case, but most people complete treatment in 12 to 18 months.

Is Invisalign Safe?
Invisalign clear braces do not contain BPA. Instead, they are made using a medical-grade polyurethane resin, which makes Invisalign increasingly safe and non-harming. They are even safe to wear whilst pregnant. Read more about Invisalign safety.
Is Invisalign Painful?

Some people may experience some discomfort when they first start wearing a new set of aligners, but this typically goes away within a few days. Overall, Invisalign is generally less painful than traditional braces.

How Are The Braces Created?

The braces are made using impressions and computer-generated images of your teeth to create a series of Invisalign aligners that gradually move your teeth into the best position over several months.

Is Invisalign As Effective As Traditional Braces?

Invisalign is generally just as effective as traditional braces for most people. However, more complex cases may require traditional braces.

Invisalign has several advantages over metal braces, including:

  • Invisible: Invisalign are clear, almost invisible braces with no unsightly wires or brackets. You won’t feel embarrassed like you might wearing traditional metal braces, and there is no risk of getting bits of food stuck between the wires.
  • Shorter treatment time: Treatment is typically completed over 6-18 months, compared to two years with metal braces.
  • Convenient: You can remove your Invisalign when needed. For the best/quickest results, you should wear them for 20-22 hours per day.
  • Affordable: Invisalign costs the same or just slightly more than metal braces and less than ceramic braces. Every patient’s case is unique, ranging from straightforward to more complex.
How Is Invisalign Different From 'Normal' Braces

Invisalign treatment is incredibly discreet, whereas, metal braces are extremely visible and many find wearing them embarrassing.
Furthermore, the teeth straightening process is quicker than with metal braces with no health risk and minimal disruption.

Can I Eat And Drink With Invisalign?

You can eat and drink with Invisalign, but you should remove the aligners before doing so to avoid damaging them. It’s important to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in to avoid staining.

How Often Do I Need To Wear My Invisalign Aligners?

You should wear your Invisalign aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing them only when you eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Can I Still Play Sports With Invisalign?

Yes, you can still play sports with Invisalign, but you should wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth and aligners.
